What is your story?
I came from a home that was plagued with addiction so I didn’t live at home from the time I was 12. I became an overachiever during my school age years as I knew it was my only opportunity to leave the small town I grew up in. I made my way to Columbus College of Art and Design due to my undying passion for art. During art school, I excelled in color theory and portrait artistry. During this time, I got a part time job at The Clinique counter in Lazarus. I had found my calling! I was able to use my art school skills and teach makeup techniques to the counter customers that redefined their features, evened their complexion and enhanced their natural bone structure. They would purchase all the product I recommended therefore I became a top producer for Clinique. I knew this was a potential career as I never felt like I was going to work. I researched how I could do this through a profession, and I discovered the Esthetician licensing so I knew once in finished art school, this was my calling.
2) How did you get to where you are?
After completing art and esthetic school, I started working for Aveda where I learned a lot about client connection. This became a valuable skill as people yearn for a connection through the human touch as well as conversation. After 1 year, I felt confident to become an independent contractor and open a small room inside of a hip, trendy salon to offer facial and waxing services. I also borrowed my first official loan from my future father in law and purchases my first piece of equipment: microdermabrasion machine, it was $8,000.00 so I was determined to make enough money to not only pay this debt, but also pay my weekly rent for the room and make a living. Well it was much harder than I had ever dreamed of it being. I struggled but I knew if I showed up everyday, persistence would pay off. One day, A stylist that worked at the salon introduced me to a client that wanted a eyebrow wax who later I found out was a plastic surgeon that specializes in burn and wound healing at Ohio State plastic surgery. She offered me a possible position at Ohio State as their Esthetician. That day changed my life as I needed the additional education they would provide as well as the job stability. The purchases my little business at the salon and I began my position at OSU. After a few years, the chief of plastic surgery decides to leave, and I knew I needed to give my dream of creating a spa that combined art with science to offer services that could change clients from the outside and on the inside, Skin Perfect Spas was opened in 2007 and my true uphill journey began.

How did you accomplish this?
I worked everyday from 9am-7pm to begin Bildungsroman the business, hires employees, trained them, built a space with the support of my husband and family, and learned business 101 each and everyday through my wins and my losses. During this time, I created a color analysis system and mineral makeup line to identify unique characteristics and skin tone of my clients as well as write a book, Discover the Power of Your Colors sold on Amazon. The color and makeup concept grew and now 10 years later is in other spas and salons across the country. My spas now have 3 locations and we are building an advanced esthetic school called Skin Perfect University to offer advanced education for the beauty industry, the school opens in a few months.

What were your goals when approaching your current career?
So many! Never having enough money, enough time, and emotionally taxing days. Employees that you train leave and take the knowledge to open their own business. I missed valuable time with my two boys when they were little as I had to be at the spas long hours. It tested my marriage and it was hard to maintain friendships as many so not get how time consuming building a business can be.
3)What obstacles did you overcome to get where you are today?
I overcame the hurt and the pain of betrayal from those you think you could trust but I also built incredible relationships with employees that have been with my company over 10 years.
4) What is your greatest accomplishment so far? Being a female Owner and creator of businesses that employee over 25 employees and growing everyday.
5) Who is your role model? Oprah Winfrey
